Coal Services launches world’s best mine emergency manual

Mines Rescue, Gas Detection and Emergency Preparedness Book2Coal Services NSW has launched a comprehensive mines rescue manual they claim is, “the most comprehensive mine emergency manual available internationally”.

The manual titled ‘Mines Rescue, Gas Detection and Emergency Preparedness’ has been designed as the principal source document for members of mine rescue teams, mining students and others with an interest in rescue procedures and emergency management.

The manual expands on the 1998 publication ‘A manual on Mines Rescue, Safety and Gas Detection’ which was “a compilation based on decades of practical knowledge, experience and application”.

Mines Rescue and Regulation & Compliance General Manager, Paul Healey, says ‘Over time the fundamental physics and chemistry of mine fires and explosions have not changed but technology is changing at a rapid pace. It was time again to revise the manual.’

The manual will primarily be used by Mines Rescue Brigadesmen, those with duties in emergency management and mining students. It will serve as a key reference document for mine planners, safety officers, ventilation officers, deputies, undermanagers and managers. The manual may also assist in driving an understanding of mine safety and capabilities across other emergency response functions.

Orders for the book can be placed via the Mines Rescue website www.minesrescueservices.com.
