Creating a workplace free of smoke comes with a number of benefits, not least of all having healthier workers.
Increased productivity, reduced costs, reduced absenteeism and a positive business image are other beneficial factors involved in making a workplace smoke-free.
Right now the Queensland Government is encouraging businesses to get on board by running Workplace Quit Smoking Program, which combines the use of a behavioural counselling (by Quitline) with nicotine replacement therapy.
Businesses eligible for the program include blue-collar occupations, such as those that employ technicians, trade workers, labourers, machine operators and drivers – the kind of employment found in the mines.
Also available online is the smoke-free workplace policy guide, which users must sign up to for use. The site provides a guide and resources, including step-by-step advice on implementing a smoke-free workplace policy, simple policy templates, no smoking signs and information brochures for the workplace.
