Peabody Energy’s Infra-Red Thermal Camera on Underground Mobile Equipment took home the top gong at the 2015 Queensland Mining Industry Health and Safety Conference last night.
The innovation was designed to improve visibility while operating machinery, which is challenging across all underground mining operations due to operator line of site, and the need for personnel to work in close proximity to the operating equipment.
The issue of operating large machinery in limited areas exposes employees to serious injury and/or death.
The Infra-Red Thermal Camera technology reduces risk to persons from machinery operating in close proximity to people with low visibility and aims to provide operators with the ability to detect people in traditional blind spots.
Anglo American Grosvenor Mine took home a Highly Commended award for their Shuttle Car Cable Reel Interlock Valve, and Glencore Oaky North Underground won the People’s Choice award for their ‘QDS Tyre Handler’.
The 2015 QMIHSC enjoys the tripartite patronage of industry, mining unions and the Queensland Government and continues to attract the largest number of delegates for any mining safety symposium in Australia.
