NSW Mines Safety is seeking public comment on a developed draft of the NSW Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulation 2014 as part of the public consultation process.
According to a statement released by NSW Mines Safety, “The regulation supports the NSW Work Health and Safety (Mines) Act 2013. Together they align specific mine safety laws with general work health and safety laws to provide a single legislative framework for the regulation of safety in all mining sectors (e.g. coal, metalliferous and extractive).”
“The regulation is based on the national model WHS (Mines) Regulation and additional mining provisions agreed by New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia. It is another important step towards the harmonisation of work health and safety laws for mining.”
NSW Mine Safety is now seeking submissions on the draft regulation and has made available a discussion paper on particular issues for comment, providing context around the development of the new legislative framework.
All submissions must be received by 27 June 2014.
For a copy of the draft regulation, the discussion paper and submission templates, visit NSW Trades and Invesment Mine Safety website.
